Service Above Self

For more information on Club Service activities or to volunteer, email mmeyer@saluteheroes.org
Vocational Service
Vocational Service is the opportunity each Rotarian has to represent his/her vocation to other
members of the club. The club sponsors a Vocational Day each spring. Periodic classification
talks give members a chance to describe their respective vocations to the club.
To volunteer, or for more information on Vocational Service, contact Ken Bayer.
Community Service
Community Service includes a variety of activities to improve the quality of life in our community.
The club raises funds for designated local charities at the annual July 4th Star Spangled
Spectacular.
We raise funds for Rotary Youth Camp by selling newspapers on Kansas City Day, the Kansas
City Royals’ home opener. Our club is also a major sponsor for the Deanna Rose Farmstead.
To volunteer, or for more information on Community Service, contact George Cook.
International Service
Overland Park Rotarians serve the international community in a variety of ways. However, this
year the Club is focusing its energy on three efforts. The Club has committed to fulfilling the Every
Rotarian Every Year pledge where each Rotarian is encouraged to donate at least $100 to the
Rotary International Foundation. The Club will also strongly support Rotary International’s effort to
eradicate Polio by financially contributing to Polio-Plus. In addition, the Club will identify and fund
an international health, hunger or literacy project. To volunteer, or for more information on
International Service, contact Skip Palmer.
Membership learn more
Membership is a critical focus for Overland Park Rotary. It represents our future and the ideas
and involvement of our membership today and for the long term. The club has a process for
working with prospective members for initiation into the club. Our club has an excellent program
called “Red Badge – Blue Badge” to encourage involvement from new members early in their
Rotary tenure. An important requirement of membership is attendance at weekly meetings.
Members are encouraged to attend as many weekly meetings as possible and are required to
maintain at least a 60% attendance record and not to miss four or more consecutive meetings.
Members may make up attendance at any other Rotary Club or by participating in various other
Rotary activities. OP Rotary meetings are Monday at noon, usually at the Marriott Hotel, but
occasionally at the Doubletree or the Ritz Charles when the Marriott is not available.
Members are assessed annual dues of $150, and there is a one-time membership processing
fee of $75. Weekly lunches are billed quarterly at $14 per week.
Programs
The Overland Park Rotary Club has become one of the most sought-after podiums in the state of
Kansas. We have hosted local and state political leaders, artists, university presidents, athletes,
business and industry leaders, medical experts, authors and charitable organizations. Our
weekly programs aim to inform, enlighten and entertain. The high quality of guest presenters
encourage our members to keep informed and stay involved. For more information or to
recommend a program, contact Doug Young at dyoung@ceresrealty.net
Family of Rotary
It is our objective to reach out to members needing personal attention with condolences, get well
wishes or congratulations due to a death, marriage or illness of the Rotarian or a member of
their family. If you have any questions or know of a fellow Rotarian experiencing one of these or
similar events in their life please contact Courtnay Bradley at cbradley@teamoffice.us

focus on the RI foundation is intended to raise awareness and interest in nominating people from
our community to these programs. For more information, contact Mike Hockley

The watch word for Rotary International is “Rotary Shares.” The watchword for our club is “Rotarians Share.” Our focus will be on service projects that make a difference, especially those where individual Rotarians share of themselves. To accomplish our Mission we will:

International standards
- Work with other Rotary clubs in Johnson and Wyandotte Counties to leverage our
combined abilities to achieve greater results.
- We will actively seek matching grants at the District and International level to expand
the impact our efforts have for the good of others.
- We will continue current international projects and seek out at least one more to serve
people in need in other countries
- We will continue to serve our own community through our 4th of July event.
- We will continue to serve the youth of our community through our Youth Leadership
Institute.
- We will continue to serve our community through the many projects listed below and in
addition seek new projects that support our emphases of health, hunger and literacy.
- And, finally, we will provide the leadership and club environment that results in members
being proud they belong the Rotary Club of Overland Park and consequently expand their club activities well beyond Monday lunch at the Overland Park Marriott.

Public Relations learn more
It is a priority for Rotary to do good work in our community. To that end, it is key that we
publicize that work to ensure that the community is aware that Rotary is working for them. It
is also important that our work is recognized by the community so service-minded individuals
know that Rotary is available for them to join. We also promote our meeting location so that
visitors and those interested in joining Rotary can come by. For more information contact

Is it the TRUTH?
Is it FAIR to all concerned?
Will it build GOODWILL and
BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?
Will it be BENEFICIAL to all

Club Administration
Club administration conducts activities associated with the effective operation of the club. This
includes organizing weekly and special programs, club bulletins, weekly programs, attendance
and promoting fellowship. Fellowship is meant to be more than one or two events a year. It is a
weekly focus which includes: wearing name badges, rotating seat assignments, appointing new
members to greet weekly, commemorating birthdays, fostering relationships with other clubs,
and including spouses in Rotary activities. It also includes the Family of Rotary (Rotaract,
Interact, Youth exchange, etc.). Courtnay Bradley handles our Family of Rotary issues that arise.
Our weekly programs are organized by our Program Chair, Doug Young. Club Bulletins and
website updates are handled by Jean Wise and Bush Lane. The Club Secretary monitors
attendance, currently Christina Eldridge. Club service, which involves coordinating the weekly
participants in order to make the club function is handled currently by Mike Meyer.
